OUR TAKE / EDITORIAL OPINION
ForecastTrader’s first feature to inspect is permission
An existing brokerage relationship does not finish the event-contract evaluation.
Interactive Brokers describes ForecastTrader as brokerage access to event contracts from supported venues, with account permissions governing access. Our view is that the entry point should be an access map. Before comparing interfaces or available questions, a prospective user should understand the particular account, permissions and supported venue involved. We would not assume that one familiar brokerage login answers those questions.
We would consider ForecastTrader for an existing or prospective brokerage customer who has a defined reason to examine event contracts alongside their other research. The tradeoff is a common account environment versus the work of distinguishing the rules and responsibilities associated with each product and venue. Convenience should not blur which entity provides which part of the experience.
An evaluation should trace one supported contract from the venue’s terms through the broker’s access requirements and into the proposed account workflow. Record the applicable permissions, current costs and resolution information using the official documents, leaving unresolved points visible. We have not tested account approval or execution. Our criterion is a clear route from eligibility to understanding: the product should be easy to situate within the brokerage relationship without being mistaken for every other instrument that relationship can expose.
